Education & Training

Dr. Askren graduated Cum Laude from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He received his Master of Science degree there, as well, studying laser applications in ophthalmology. After attending medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Askren completed his General Surgery Internship at Emory University. Following six years of surgical training at The University of California San Francisco Fresno – Central San Joaquin Valley Medical Education Program, he completed a residency in plastic surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham with Dr. Luis Vasconez and others – all pioneers of modern plastic surgery. His educational emphasis was on aesthetic face, breast and body surgery.


Certification

Dr. Askren is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is also an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the California Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Locally, he is an active member of the California Medical Association and is an active member of the Fresno-Madera Medical Society.

 

Areas Of Interest

Dr. Askren's plastic surgery practice began by repairing difficult facial deformities and reconstructive procedures on the face, breast and body. This exposure provided an excellent foundation for understanding wound healing and tissue handling for aesthetic procedures. His primary focus now is that of aesthetic face and breast surgery. Holding safety as the number one priority, he takes a careful approach to the treatment and management of his patients.

Dr. Askren's outside interests include drawing, mountain biking, and luthierie.
